Training Session from the Drone - Brace

We got the drone out to provide a different vantage point to have a look at a training session.

Two dogs are run on parallel "beats" on either side of the center line (pathway). Each dog and handler team working independent of the other team while "honouring" (not interfering) the others work.

You can see three gunners working with the handlers, remaining in line and proceeding down the course with the handler/dog team.

Chukar Flush

Sometimes a Chukar escapes and you have to make the best of it.

No scent cone involved. Just a flush and mark. Don't repeat this too often.

Gun Shyness

The absolute end of a hunting dogs career. You can not hunt if the dog is running away from a gun shot.

Simple accidents, mistakes or owner ignorance tend to be the precursors to a dog developing Gun Shyness.

Earlier in the day, while walking on a sidewalk past a house construction site a worker started using a nail gun.

This loud sound startled the 5 month old puppy badly. Not good.

Some immediate action was required to avoid a problem.

We returned shortly to the vicinity to do some training. I had to create a positive experience with the sound that had startled the puppy earlier. By using a little distance to reduce the volume and plenty of treats for positive reinforcement, we avoided a bigger problem.
